Welcome to Pre-K
Together We Can Reach the Stars!

Mr. Tooth visits pre-k

Introduction

Welcome to Pre-K!  Mrs. E and I are excited to have your child in our classroom and look forward to a fun and engaging first year of school.  In Pre-K, we focus heavily on developing Pre-reading and Pre-math skills, as well as, Science and Social Studies.  Students will also enjoy a full palate of 30 minute specials which include Physical Education, Library, Art, Music, and Computers. If at any time throughout this year you have concerns regarding your child’s academics, please let me know.  Your input is critical to our success.

Curriculum

All of the elements in our curriculum are based on the DoDEA Pre-K Standards.

Arrival and Departure

Students arriving at school should line up by the side classroom door and wait until Mrs. E opens the door.  If it is raining or snowing, please take your child to the auditorium and wait until a school monitor is on hand to take responsibility for your child’s welfare.   If your child arrives after 0835, please get a Tardy slip from the Office. Pick up at the end of the pre-k session is also at the side classroom door.

Specials

Snack

We eat snack from 1035 – 1050.  Each child is required to bring their own snack.  If you wish to bring a snack for the class to celebrate a special occasion, great!  Please let us know and we will be happy to accommodate.

Recess

We try to go out on to the playground every day.  Please dress your child in sturdy shoes and clothes that are made for the playground.  All children are required to have a change of clothes.

Communication Folder

Class work, forms, and other communication from the school shall be sent home each day in your child’s communication folder.  On the left hand side of the folder, we shall include a parent communication form.  This form provides a quick and easy method for you to keep us informed of doctor’s appointments, absences…  Consistent two way communication is important for your child’s success, so please review your child’s communication folder daily.

Homework

Your student will not usually receive homework. In the past, we noted that only a portion of the class completed and returned homework activities and thus many were missing the important opportunities to master classroom learning.  We have crafted time in each day to complete these activities and shall provide feedback to you via your child’s communication binder.  This not only helps me to access your child’s mastery of the topic but also readies your child for the academic rigors of Kindergarten and beyond.

Volunteers

We value our parent’s support and do welcome you to enjoy our classroom activities.  If you are interested in volunteering your time, please let me know.  In addition, the Dahlgren School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) provides an excellent opportunity for you to make a meaningful contribution to your school.
