Registration Information
The office will be open from 8:00 to 3:30 Monday through Friday to accept registration information. Listed in the following paragraphs is some of the information that is needed to register at Ashurst. There is additional information needed therefore, parents and/or guardians are required to come to the office to register once they are in the Quantico area.
Age Requirements - Students must meet age requirements in order to enroll in school. Students registering for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade, who have not been previously enrolled in any accredited school will not be registered without verification of their date of birth.
The age requirements for the 2008-09 school year are as follows:
Pre-Kindergarten - must be 4 by September 30, 2008 Kindergarten - must be 5 by September 30, 2008 First Grade - must be 6 by September 30, 2008 and have completed kindergarten at an accredited school There are no exceptions for this age requirement.
An Original Birth Certificate. A state certified true copy of the original birth certificate must be presented. For children born overseas, an original Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (also known as the Consular Report of Birth), or an original Form DS-1350 Certification of Birth Abroad will be accepted. A passport for international students is acceptable. A copy will be made and the original returned to you. If a certified copy of the birth record cannot be obtained at the time of enrollment, then a notarized affidavit setting forth the pupil's age and explaining the inability to present a certified copy of the birth record must be submitted before the pupil will be enrolled. A form is available at the school office. This will be held on file until a birth certificate may be obtained.
PCS Orders - A copy of the orders to Quantico must be received and maintained in the registration files.
Verified Immunization Record by a physician or physician's designee. A copy will be made and the original returned to you. In accordance with Virginia immunization requirements, students entering 6th grade must have documentation at school for the 2nd MMR immunization. Documentation must be in the child's records. DoDEA Instruction 6205.1 states that students shall meet specific immunization requirements prior to enrollment or to maintain school enrollment. This includes Hepatitis A, Dose 1 and Dose 2 (if six months since the 1st Dose).
School Physical Examination - A School Physical Form will be required for all students entering the Quantico School System. The physical must be dated within the past twelve months of enrollment. Students who have been enrolled in another Virginia school may be admitted if there is a copy of a previous Virginia physical examination and immunization record. If there is no copy, then a current examination is required.
Transcript or Current Report Card. A student enrolling during the school year must show verification from the previous school of attendance and date of withdrawal.
Must Reside Aboard Quantico Marine Base for student to be enrolled in the Quantico Dependents Schools or be granted a waiver by the superintendent.
- Must already reside in quarters or present a letter from the Housing Office stating that the sponsor is on the 90-day Housing List. A copy of the lease or 90-day housing letter will be maintained in the registration file.
- Students residing with a guardian (i.e. aunt, uncle, sibling, etc.) must present an official court-ordered document, signed by a judge, stating that the person with whom the student is residing has legal guardianship.
- Students expelled from another school system will not be allowed to enroll unless a waiver is granted by the Principal, with approval of the District Superintendent.
- If base housing is declined, if you are removed from the housing list, and if you purchase and/or lease off-base housing with the intent to decline on-base housing if offered, the eligibility of your children to attend the DDESS school ceases IMMEDIATELY and you are obligated to inform the school of this change and transfer your children to the local county school district.

Standardized Test Scores. Please provide any documentation you may have that includes standardized test scores.
Special Programs. Please provide any documentation you may have that relates to any placement of your child in special programs.
A student will not be considered as enrolled until all of the above items are completed and submitted in person to the office.
Housing Areas Served
As of May 2007 Ashurst Elementary School serves the following housing areas: North Lyman, South Lyman, Lettered Townhouses from 16088-16112 and the 17000 Block, McHugh Woods, Geiger Ridge, Lejeune and Neville Roads, and Waller Hill. Please note that housing areas may change due to construction.
