Information on the Lunch Program

In January 1999, West Point Schools became a participant in the National School Lunch Program.   The lunch program is now regulated and subsidized by both the state and federal governments and meets the standards for nutrition set by the State Department of Education and the U.S.D.A.   The cafeteria offers three different entrees every day.  The entrée choice is made each morning in the classroom and sent to the cafeteria.  A hot lunch includes entree, vegetable, fruit and milk.  Please call Child Nutrition Director, 938-3737 with questions or concerns.

Payment

All of our lunches, milk and snacks may be purchased on a daily basis with cash.

We offer a pre-paid meal tracking system for the lunch and the à la carte milk.   You may purchase hot lunches or lunch milk in advance by sending in a check/cash for any dollar amount for any number of children you have in the school; make the check payable to West Point Lunch Fund. We find that purchasing 20 lunches at a time works best for parental meal tracking.  Elementary 20 lunches = $35.00.  Middle School 20 lunches = $38.00. Please send in your check or cash in an envelope marked with specific instructions as to how your money should be allocated:  student’s name, teacher and what you are purchasing.   Any checks or cash received with inadequate or no instructions will be returned.  We encourage participation in our pre-paid lunch program.  This eliminates the possibility of lost money.  Parents are Responsible For Tracking Their Child’s Pre-Paid Meals and Replenishing Monies As Needed.

Pre-paid checks must be written for the exact amount required.  No change will be given to a student whose lunches are pre-paid.  (Example:  $20.00 check divided by $1.75 = 11.4 lunches ?  NO!

Reminder:  All of our lunches, milk and snacks may be purchased on a daily basis with cash.

Special Dietary Needs:   If your child has special dietary needs due to medical reasons, please send in a note from the doctor stating the problem and listing exactly what the child may eat or drink.  If a specific brand name is required, please state the name brands in the official request.

Charging:  Lunches may be charged one time.  You will be notified by note through your child (so check those back packs) when he/she has charged lunch and payment must be made the following day before any additional charging is allowed.  If payment is not received and your child needs lunch, he/she will have to visit the office to call you at home or work.  No charging will be permitted after April 30th, 2007. No exceptions to this written policy will be allowed.  We Discourage Charging At All Times.
