Counseling Services and Resources
The primary goal of the counseling program is to promote and enhance student learning through preventive activities, and by addressing individual student learning and/or adjustment needs. Each class receives large group lessons on a variety of topics.
Personal counseling to individuals or groups of students is offered as needed in areas such as:
- divorce
- blended families
- dealing with death
- self-esteem issues
- anger control
- friendships
Guidance Program Primary Responsibilities
- Provide classroom activities for all students in the areas of academic development and personal/social development through collaboration with classroom teachers. Topics of direct instruction may include:
- strengthening study skills
- time management
- decision-making skills
- conflict resolution
- managing stress
- dealing with bullies
- deployment and moves
- drug/alcohol abuse
- handling peer pressure.
- Provide personal counseling services to individuals or groups of students based upon their personal and/or developmental needs. Topics may include:
- dealing with divorce
- blended families
- dealing with death
- single parent families
- self-esteem issues
- friendships.
- Provide consultation services to teachers to enhance their capacity to address individual and group learning needs.
- Provide consultation services to parents to enhance their ability to address their child's personal and social development.
- Act as a liaison between teachers, parents, other school staff, and community resources to facilitate successful student development.
