FLES - Foreign Language in Elementary School

                                    Aquí se habla Español.

Students Learn to Speak Spanish

Hola.  Kindergarteners and First graders students are learning Español (ehs-pah-nee-ohl).

The program is one filled with developmentally appropriate practices which help the students understand and speak Español.

We are using the Santillana books: Nuevo, Bravo, bravo to enrich our lessons.

We are very proud of the progress of our students and we know that the benefits of leaning Español at an early age are many. Some of these benefits are:

  1. To communicate with 350 million native Spanish speakers worldwide.
  2. To communicate with Spanish-speaking people at home.
  3. To enhance their travel experiences.
  4. To improve their employment potential in the future
  5. To improve their knowledge of their own language.
  6. To prepare for study abroad opportunities.
  7. To better appreciate Spanish-speaking cultures
  8. To make lifelong friends.
  9. Learning Spanish makes acquiring the next foreign language easier.
  10. Gain access to Spanish art, music, literature, and film.

Students are learning greetings and farewells in Español. They are also practicing to describe objects by size, shape, and color.  As part of the Hispanic Heritage month, the students will learn about the first and second voyage of Christopher Columbus. They will learn aboutSpain, Puerto Rico and Mexico in depth.

Standard # 2 is about Culture

Students will be able to identify places where Español is spoken and identify one special thing about the country. Here is an example of one activity in which students choose a place around the world where Spanish is spoken, color the flag, and draw something special about it.

NEW STUDENTS welcome to Español.

We have lots of new students here at Fort Rucker Primary School who are ready to learn! Our students learn more and learn faster Spanish because our educational environment is clearly defined and understood by the newcomers. Since lessons are reviewed constantly with songs and stories, new students are able to pick-up new and already taught vocabulary.
