What's Happening in Mrs. BF's 2nd Grade Class
2nd Grade STEAM Page
STEM is not just science or technology or math or engineering. STEM is a truly integrated approach to these studies. STEM engages students and increases motivation with project-based learning, encourages students to solve authentic problems, and asks them to work with others to build real solutions. Individual students artistic abilities can also be demonstrated throughout learning.
Second graders have been working on STE(a)M projects to explore the Engineering Design Process. They are learning to problem solve and work collaboratively to reach the overall goal. This quarter we will be reading “Marianna’s Butterflies” and exploring the problem in the story. Students will then have to solve the problem by engineering a pollinator to support their solution.
In Everyday Math familiar skills are reinforced and new skills are introduced. Students are given the opportunity to talk math and to share problem-solving strategies.
Quarter one objectives: skip counting, even and odd, name collections, fact families, problem solving, and time.
Here is a list of all of the skills students learn in second grade! The skills are organized into categories, and you can move your mouse over any skill name to see a sample question. To start practicing, just click on any link. IXL will track your score, and the questions will even increase in difficulty as you improve!
