What's Happening in Mrs. CK's Classroom
News for the week of March 3, 2014
We will be focusing on Dr. Seuss all this week. We'll do review centers all based on Dr. Seuss. Today was crazy sock day, Tuesday is wear stripes day, Wednesday is dress wacky day, Thursday is wear your favorite shirt day, and Friday is wear your favorite hat day.
We will have Guided Reading homework Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please ensure that your child reads for 20 minutes each evening. Reading logs were sent home Friday and are due Friday, March 7.
Writing - Six Traits
3. Word Choice
4. Sentence Fluency
We are working hard on writing a good paragraph. We're learning to proofread our work and find mistakes using the COPS plan (capitals, organization, punctuation, and spelling). We've done a lot of writing this quarter, so I hope you see a difference at home, in your child's ability to write a good paragraph and edit his/her mistakes.
editing, editing, editing!!!!!!! This is a BIG second grade standard we have to master!
We'll have spelling homework each week. The spelling lists are sent home, but if they're misplaced, you can find them on Spelling City under the story's name. The story's name this week is Helen Keller and the Big Storm. Spelling homework is sent home in your child's Monday folder.
Spelling homework is due each Friday. We'll have a spelling test each Friday. This week's spelling test will focus on wall words. For an up to date list please go to Spelling City / March 3.
We'll do a fast fact practice daily with a test on Friday. Please practice both addition and subtraction as both will be on the fast fact tests for the rest of the year. We're down to 7 minutes, so if they're not practicing at home, please help them. We are doing double digit addition and subtraction, with regrouping.
We're working on telling time to the minute, measurement to the nearest inch and centimeter, and counting coins. We will have a unit test March 7th. IXL is a wonderful way for your child to practice in areas they're having difficulty in.
We'll continue our weather unit this week. We'll review matter, and learn more about the water cycle, clouds, and how weathermen predict the weather. We'll be weather watchers all this week and try to predict the weather.
