What's Happening in Mrs. NO's class

Reminders

Please check planners daily. I initial each student planner before dismissal to make sure homework is correctly copied. This is a great communication tool between home and school. I also send out frequent short messages via email. Please contact me if you are not receiving these messages. By my records, I am reaching at least one parent for every student.

The Pearson Success Net information is in the front of every student's planners. Recently some families reported trouble logging in (when they could previously) to the site. Using a lowercase s in the password has restored access for these families.

GRAMMAR PRACTICE

Look at what we're learning!

Reading

This week's story is "The Horned Toad" which introduces us to a lively, spunky, loud, rowdy young cowgirl Reba Jo. She will give us a lot to talk about when we discuss character traits. Also, which Disney movie does this story remind you of?

Writing Skill of the Week

This is an ongoing skill that many of the students need to remember: Capitalize proper nouns such as names, places, and people. Begin every sentence with a capital letter!!!

This week's focus will be on Compound Sentences. Joining two ideas together requires some punctuation and conjunctions such as and, or, and but.

We will increase the use of the Shurley Jingles. The Sentence Jingle has definitely come in handy when we had to identify the Subjects and Predicates recently.

Math-

Please encourage students to practice their multiplication facts nightly. The students are at very different levels of mastery right now. This can be done with flashcards, websites, or games. MASTERY of these facts will assist the students with long multiplication, long division, and fractions which will all come this year.

Science

We are working on Life Science and currently in chapter 1- Plants.

Social Studies

We are currently learning vocabulary that will assist us all year as we learn about the United States.
