School Nurse

Procedures for Illness and Minor Injury

The school nurse renders first aid and provides nursing care for the students who is injured or becomes ill at school. The school nurse determines the need for a student to be sent home or referred for medical evaluation.

Administering Medication

Parents are encouraged to administer necessary medication to their children at home if possible. 'when medications must be administered during the school day, the medication must be delivered to the school nurse in the original container, properly labeled by the pharmacy or physician, stating the name of the student, the medication, the dosage, and current date. Prior to administering the medication, the physician and parent must complete and sign a permission for medication form. This form, with signatures of both the physician and the parent, must also be on file before administering medications to students.
