Red Ribbon Week - October 23rd - 31st

Friday the 24th of October is Red Day.  Fifth grade will wear red shirts inside out for a "Don't Let Drugs Turn You" pledge.  In addition, all students will sign a pledge on Friday to be drug free and then receive a red ribbon for participating.

Reading

Our first book report will be due October 31st.  Here is the rubric I will use to assess the reports.

  • 20 points  Title (Underlined)  
  • 10 points  Author (Under title) 
  •  5 points  Space after author 
  •  5 points  Illustrator 
  • 10 points  Main characters 
  • 40 points  4 sentences about the best part of the story (Why you like it, capitals, punctuation marks, and correct spelling)  
  • 10 points  Neatness 

Grammar

Students are learning to identify synonym is a word that means the same or nearly the same as another word.

Spelling

Students spelling words are words commonly misspelled. Spelling Contracts are due on Friday. Students can only make a 60 on Spelling Tests without the contracts.

Homework - Work on Spelling Contracts

Math

Homework- Page 72 (1-10).

Science

Homework - Keep track of what you eat, drink and exercise patterns daily. Turn in Science charts.

Social Studies

Study the states in the Middle West Region.

We will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a fiesta on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 am.
