School History and Command SponsorshipHistory of Diamond Elementary SchoolThe Fort Stewart Elementary School became operational in September, 1963, under the provision of Section VI, P.L., 82-874, which provides free public education for children residing on Federal property. Due to the influx of the military population with school-age dependents, another school adjacent to Bryan Village was constructed and opened in September, 1982 and was named Brittin Elementary School. Fort Stewart Elementary School was renamed Diamond Elementary School at the same time. In 1964, kindergarten was included as part of the school curriculum. In 1994 Pre-kindergarten was added. Children in grades seven through twelve attend nearby public schools in Liberty County. Diamond Elementary School is in the Fort Stewart System (FSSS), which is part of the South Carolina/Fort Stewart district of the Department of Defense Elementary and Secondary School System (DDESS) with a seven-memeber advisory school board. A superintendent, assistant superintendent and administrative staff support the schools within the district.
