Description: Description: cid:image001.jpg@01CD134F.EDC24B50

At the beginning of the school year, DoDEA introduced a new attendance policy similar to those found in most school districts in the U.S. The intent of the policy is to strike a fair and consistent balance between the academic needs of students and the unique needs of military families. To gauge the levels of awareness, effectiveness and satisfaction with the new DoDEA attendance policy, DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba has developed a voluntary, anonymous poll for all stakeholders—students, parents, employees, military leaders, etc. The online poll runs through May 31 and takes only five minutes to complete. The data from the poll will be analyzed to determine if refinements and improvements are needed. We’re listening so please tell us what you think of the new DoDEA attendance policy: https://www.research.net/s/789HM97

Enrolling Your Child in Kindergarten?

Parents planning to enroll a child in the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) kindergarten for the coming school year should be aware of the entrance requirements before making an appointment to register a child in school. See the DoDEA Media Advisory for more information.

Moving Between Duty Stations?

DoDEA, in alignment with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, is committed to easing the challenges of military families moving between duty stations. For families transitioning to a new duty station and enrolling in DoDEA schools for the first time, there is now a provision, allowing a 30-calendar day grace period for parents/students to meet immunization requirements after school enrollment. The intent of this provision is to avoid any interruption in the transferring student’s education. The health and the welfare of all students is a top priority for DoDEA. The Department of Defense sets immunization requirements for DoDEA schools based on recommendations from the Center of Disease Control. Compliance with immunization requirements greatly reduces the risk of public health issues. School nurses and local military medical treatment facilities stand ready to assist parents in meeting these requirements promptly.

For more information please see DoDEA Immunization Requirements August 2010
